Title is missing from the map; the title applied here is based on content. Scale and legend are not given; orientation is marked along the borders on all four sides with north at the left. Qianshanzhai (Qianshan Fort) was a coastal port in Xiangshan County. The map offers pictorial depictions of Qianshanzhai’s settlements, military posts, forts, border crossings, harbors and Western-style buildings in Macao. All place names are identified with red labels. The Qianshanzhai at the center of the map; distance mileages are annotated. On the upper left is a signature of W. A. with a note: “This Plan of Tesn Shan (or as is so called by the Portuguese Casa Branca) and Macao, I picked up in the bed room of the renowned Admiral Kwan as the forts of the Bocca Tigris 虎門 shortly after their capture on the 26th February 1841 W. A. Macao.”        
        
Haifang Brigade is a coastal defense unit stationed in Qianshanzhai, which was originally a rammed-earth fort in the third year of Kangxi’s reign, 1664. Haifang Brigade was changed to Qianshan Brigade in the 14th year of Jiaqing’s reign, 1809, next year, Qianshag Brigade was reclassified to naval force. In 1811, Qianshan Brigade had equipped two rowing boats for patrolling the sea of Macao. The map may have been drawn after the 16th year of Jiaqing’s reign, 1811.
