“Map of Anhui” appears on the title page, but the content is actually about Xin’an County’s coastal defense of Guangdong. Scale, legend, and orientation are not given; orientation varies. This military atlas consists of 27 sheets with the sea on the bottom or occasionally on the right. Xin’an County was under the jurisdiction of Guangzhou Prefecture and was 260 li southeast of Canton. The map contains pictorial depictions of Xin’an Brigade and affiliated battalions, forts, mountains, and rivers. Military jurisdiction range and staffing levels are annotated on the map. Comparing the map with the information given in the Xin’an County Gazetteers published in 1820, the map may have been drawn before the 25th year of Qing Jiaqing’s reign, 1820.
