Title is written on a label in black ink and affixed to the map. It consists of eight folded sections, but broken into two mounted pieces. Scale and legend are not given; orientation is written along the borders on all four sides with north at the bottom. The map offers pictorial depictions of the coastal area in the north of the Qiantang River, including Hangzhou town and 18 forts. Places are annotated and additional red labels indicates 10 town gates in Hangzhou.
Haining Naval Brigade was established in the 23rd year of Qing Daoguang’s reign, 1843; the map may have been drawn after that. This map can be studied with another map titled “Military Map of Qiantang County” (Add. MS. 16360 (A)) in the British Library. It is recommended to study both maps side by side and compare the east and west sections of Hangzhou.
