No title appears on this map; the title applied here is based on content. The map starts from the border of Haining Municipality and Haiyan County in the east; it ends at the border of Haining Municipality and Renhe County. It is a coastal map of Haining. Haining was under the jurisdiction of Hangzhou Prefecture; in the 38th year of Qianlong’s reign, 1773, it was changed from county to Municipality. No scale or legend is given; orientation is marked along the borders on all four sides with north at the bottom. The map depicts geographic features pictorially, including mountains, water ripples, cities, temples, and pagodas. The other features are indicated with simple lines. Some places are identified, such as military posts, forts, cities, and Taoist temples. Nine explanatory red labels are affixed to the map to describe posts and number of soldiers, sandbars, sea tides, and the location of the new fort.

The information given on the map is more than a simple depiction of an embankment along the river, but to express the importance of the river defense works. There are many flood control projects of Haining area left from the imperial court; some documents recorded in great detail on a monthly basis. Based on the different dike structures from Guandi Temple to Qili Temple, the map may have been drawn after the 12th year of Daoguang’s reign, 1832.
