No title appears on this map; the title applied here is based on content. Scale and legend are not given on the map. The map is drawn in ink. Orientation varies with the coastline. The map covers the coastline in order from left to right: Kuoqu Suo in Ningbo Prefecture, Qiancang Suo, Juexi Suo, Dasong Suo, Xiangshan County, Changguo Wei, and Jiantiao Suo in Taizhou Prefecture. Land is at the bottom of the map and the perspective is from the land to the sea. The map is a typical coastal defense map. The map focuses on the distribution of piers, abutments, forts, military watchtowers, bridges, walled cities, and garrisons along the coast. Place names and islands are indicated and some are annotated in English. The original map most likely fell into the hands of westerners and was used by them.
The mapping style is almost exactly the same as the “Qiantang River Fortifications Map” (Add. MS. 16363 (E)) in the British Library’s collection. The two maps were probably made by the same cartographer around the 20th year of Qing Daoguang’s reign, 1840.
