Title is missing from the map; the title applied here is based on content. Scale and legend are not given; orientation is marked along the borders on all four sides with north at the bottom. The map depicts some features of Songjiang Prefecture with simple images and annotations, including military posts, cities and towns, artillery forts, temples, and bridges. The map covers the southeast coastal area of Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the north side of the Huangpu River. The map shows the military districts of Jinshan, which is slightly different from the administrative region of Jinshan County. Some military posts distributed in Huatin, Fengxian, and Pinghu.

The military Wei-suo (guard post) system was established in the first year of Ming Hongwu’s reign, 1368; Qing Dynasty continued to use the same system left from Ming Dynasty. Jinshan Wei (Brigade) was established as a town in 1386; in the fourth year of Qing Shunzhi’s reign, 1647, Jinshan Wei was deployed with a Commandant (Shoubei), command seven plots of fields. In 1725, Jinshan County was established and located in Jinshan Wei (town). The capital of Jinshan County moved to Zhujing Zhen in 1759. Comparing the size of army districts and the internal configuration inside the city, the map may have been drawn before the 24th year of Qing Qianlong’s reign, 1759.
