The map on one side of the fan depicts the late Qing Dynasty's territory; however, the map is distorted to fit the shape of the fan. There are some errors. The map on the other side of the fan is a star chart. The maps are not drawn to scale. The fan was probably made for collectors rather than as a useful tool for one to find direction.
The map can be studied with the following map in the National Palace Museum's collection: title: Da Qing wan nian yi tong tian xia quan tu (purchase no. 002503-002510).
