Title is missing from the map; the title applied here is based on content. Scale and legend are not given; orientation is marked along the borders on all four sides with north at the bottom. The map depicts some features pictorially, including ports, watchtowers, and forts. The other features are depicted in graphic lines. Harbors and sandbars are annotated with 15 red labels identifying sandbars, width, depth, silt buildup, and mileage. A county seal in Chinese and Manchu appears on the map. This is an official military map.

Rugao County was originally governed under Yangzhou Prefecture. In the second year of Yongzheng’s reign, 1724, it became one of the counties governed by Tongzhou (Tong municipality). The map may have been drawn around Daoguang period, 1843.
