No title appears on this map; the title applied here is based on content. This is a distribution map of river dams, seawalls, and garrisons under the jurisdiction of Yancheng Brigade. Scale, legend, and orientation are not given. However, north is at the bottom, judging from the surrounding environment and locations on the map. The map covers the land area bordered by the Yellow Sea to the east, Dazong Lake to the west, Funing County to the north, and Xinghua County to the south. Yancheng was situated in the Lixiahe plain in the eastern coastal region of northern Jiangsu Province. The relief is shown from high terrain in the east to low plain in the west. Mudflats, seawalls, and rivers decorate the entire map. The unique topography rendered a natural shield for the city of salt. Fangong embankment is indicated by the dark bold lines which run from Funing, Yancheng County in the north to Xingha in the south. An official seal of “Yancheng Brigade” is stamped on the verso of the map.

There are nine faded red labels affixed to the map. Military officers’ name of each garrison are annotated in black ink. Based on their positions and the name of the Xiaoguan Brigade marked on the map, the map may have been drawn after the 19th year of Daoguang’s reign, 1839.
