The set includes a general map, eight individual maps, a seal, map cover, and silk brocade cover letter with an embroidered cloud pattern. The map is oriented with north on the top. The map was drawn in traditional pictorial mapping style to depict the geomorphology of the mountains and towns of the Sichuan territory. The map is especially focused on the battalion structure within the towns, associations, barracks, flood control and embankment units, and all levels of command in civilian and military ranks.
All place names are annotated; in addition, labels are pasted all over the map. Red labels show the proposed new flood control sites and the strength of garrison troops; yellow labels indicate the number of existing troops and the proposed additional number of soldiers needed; green labels indicate no proposed additional soldiers for the sites. Red dotted lines show the road; green, brown, blue, and other colors distinguish towns, associations, and flood control camps. The provincial capital is particularly marked in blue.
This map can be studied with the following maps in the National Palace Museum's collection: title: Sichuan Sheng si lu guan yi tu (map no. 020801); title: Sichuan quan sheng dao li zong tu (map no. 021540-021542).
